I have been there in blogging, online marketing game for about one year.
I know it is not nearly as long as a lot of the pros, but in this last year, I have learned some verify unique things by trying and trying.
No matter, I messed up many times, but I learned a lot. And one advice that I too got most of the times is that guest blogging is the way to increase your email list and readers on your blog.
So, since I just launched my blog site, I thought that should be my highest aim.
After all, more subscribers give you more traffic that in turn would give you more income. Isn’t it??
Yes, it would.
I searched a lot; I pitched in, and I wrote various unpaid matters for endless hours.
However, I did keep on noticing what helped me and what not. It’s not right to spend such a fruitful time to post for those results; building a significant list takes you higher if you don’t get better results with a lesser time investment.
And I learned some worthy lessons along the way. So, what are the key areas to opt, For getting better results? Let’s get Started:
#1. Only post to blogs where your 100% audience is ideally reading:
This doesn’t mean that every single reader of that blog would an appropriate fit for your website, but it does imply that you are optimistic at least a fine lot of them are.
For instance, if you run a website on easy vegan cooking, you can target health blogs, allergy blogs, mommy blogs and other related ones.
For the health and allergy people, you can present them a cure for their health issue in the form of a vegan recipe.
The mommy blogs might be interested in vegetarian ones. Monday recipes to make dishes for their families and nonvegan cooking readers might be following a low cholesterol punches of their favorite dishes.
All of these blogs have audience members that could be appropriate insist for your site so that they can be great options.
But if you run a vegan cooking blog and you are making an effort to post a guest spot on a blog about fashion??
Even if you write the most compelling and attractive post there, people will click back to your website and see it doesn’t engage them so that they would not subscribe. As simple as that.
Therefore, if you are going to send out guest post pitch inquiries as a part of your traffic generation plan for your niche site, do not kill your time on blogs that are not fit to win your target audience.
#2. Addressing Your Email to “Blog Manager.”:
If you have any tie up in media relations, then this blog is a big question mark. Being a blog manager, getting an email that is addressed to ‘blog Make the ‘ instead of my original name shows careless attitude and ends nowhere.
You’ll have to be regular with your homework. Keep on checking the blog’s contact page to know the blog manager for getting the proper mailing address.
Always make it a point to google for the blog for submitting guest posts. In such a case, you can replace the search word with terms like guest blog or guest blogging guidelines.
It helps you to get any information that blogger has published about guest blogging for him and if the blog even accepts submissions.
#3. Be firm about the value of your Post:
Try to teach something in your post. Once I wrote, for instance, was quite more about Web hosting than the other posts I had written but it wasn’t much special.
It was nothing like Google click, or other ten websites won’t tell you. And guess what.
I got around three Twitter mentions for that article. But there was no traffic to speak of. Let alone any subscribers.
I have to admit that I pitched that site as I knew they had a good audience but that their content standards were a little bit lower – so it would be an easy pitch to cover.
But it didn’t work. No matter it took me less time to write, but it proved a sheer waste of time. If I had devoted a little more time on the post and provided some actual value, I would have generated some traffic curious for more of that valuable suggestion.
The lesson for marketers: Where the making of backlinks is necessary, and easy guest posts are a good way to do that. There is no fun writing blog posts to generate those backlinks if they pay off less as compared to devoted time.
#4. It Would Take Forever & You MUST Follow Through:
Your post won’t be published this week or next one or not even in the next month. The editors are awfully engaged people, but I take their all the actions with love.
One post, for example, could have easily published in the early January, but it didn’t see the light until March.
The editor undoubtedly was impressed by my pitch and had also seen my work before. She was even happy working with me, but she was so much indulged in Everything else that she just kept on forgetting about my post.
I would mail her every week, and she would move ahead just a little bit.
Lesson – if you are aiming at getting quick subscribers for a big launch, a guest blogging plan is not the actual way to do it.
#5. Don’t kill your time if there’s no Traffic Potential – Check Alexa
It can be uniquely attractive if the site itself approaches you to ask for your contribution to them.
But you have to be well known with what they want here; That’s certainly free content. Good blog posts that they get free of cost.
It’s fine for them to ask you for that particular thing if they have that ranking to value that kind of work. But if their site is as small as yours or even smaller, it’s not made for you.
By checking Alexa, you can get a rough estimate of well the site ranks in online popularity. (My rule of thumb is not even to bother if their rank number is higher than one million.)
#6. Your Guest Post is Too Lengthy:
It’s just a myth that long posts fetch you better results, but you will be surprised to see how wrong it can be. The longer posts are not successful being just lengthy.
They became successful with their proper material and researched facts and figures.
Solution – Don’t focus on writing long guest posts; Just write worthy guest posts.
#7. Link To Your Standard Homepage:
A link to your homepage might not serve the real purpose. But directing the traffic to a particular page can be fruitful to have your campaign as well as the visitors.
Before you do this, consider the actual goals of your guest posting campaign. More traffic is excellent but What to do with that traffic???
Instead, craft a targeted custom landing page with a call to action. For example, if your aim is to collect email subscribers, your page should offer relevant posts and a gift that falls right at the place of blog’s audience.
If you want to sell a product, be very sure there is other material information on that page and not a spammy sales page
If you lack time, link to the closest fitting category page on your blog instead.
As Google places more importance on the high-quality matter with each update to its search algorithm, guest blogging is certainly to become more prominent in the coming times.
But in the verge of taking up the full benefit of this efficient marketing channel, you need to fix your sights on the big picture instead of just cribbing for short term benefits.
Be very clear about your objectives and do not make the mistakes mentioned above and you will increase your chances of success considerably.
