  • Great-Tips-To-Supercharge-Your-Slow-Wordpress-Blog

Faster WordPress Blog is a sign of successful blogging. No one wants to wait for your content to load. In the generation of 4G and LTE, your site should load as fast as it can, and there should not be any lagging time.

In this post, I am going to discuss some easy tips to make sure your site loads. If you think your site loads slowly because of internet speed, that is not always true.

A WordPress blog consists of a database, PHP code, CSS theme and other WordPress files.

If you have not optimized any of the above content, your site will load slowly and may frustrate the visitors. Let’s see some of the issues if you will encounter if your site is slow:

  • Visitors will abandon your site
  • Google will penalize you in search ranking if your site speed is low
  • There are very fewer chances that a visitor will recommend your site to their social media group
  • You will lose trust and credibility
  • You will not be able to survive competition with other bloggers

So what we need to do if we want a better and fast loading WordPress blog? Let’s see it in detail:

# Choose a better Web hosting

This is the first and most important thing to improve your WordPress blog. Never rely on free or cheap hosting. Always buy standard and recommend WordPress hosting.

Some of the recommend WordPress hostings are Bluehost, Dreamhost, and Siteground.

They offer customized services for WordPress like free domain name, 1-click WordPress installation, email, FTP and more. They also come with a scalable platform and with 24/7 support.

# Use a paid WordPress theme

If you want to be a successful blogger, never rely on a free WordPress theme. They are slow, sluggish and rarely updated. They also pose a security risk as it contains security loophole.

A paid theme is responsive, secure, fully customized, scalable and most importantly faster. I am using Genesis theme for over a year and very happy with it. You may want to read this post. Why I Switched to Genesis Theme

# Responsive design for mobiles(create light version)

This is very important to create a responsive design for WordPress blog for mobile devices.

More than 40% of the visitors lands on your WordPress blog using mobile devices. This number is going to increase in future.

So it is critical to creating a blog which looks and load faster on any devices. A good WordPress theme can do this task for you. In another case, you need to tweak your blog.

Also, make sure you reduce the component of your blog on your mobile devices.

For example,  you can reduce some widgets or ads on mobile devices, so that it loads faster on your mobile devices. Remember when users try to connect to your blog, they may not have wifi all the time.

You need to make sure the critical component of your blog loads quickly.

# Use CDN

This is another way to make certain blog’s static content loads quickly.

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a distributed network that delivers static pages of your blog like CSS and pictures from the different geographical location.

Cloudflare is a good CDN service provider with a free version.

So for example, when a user requests your web page from India, a CDN near India location will deliver the static content. This will improve the overall speed of your page.

# Use WordPress plugins to increase speed

There are various WordPress plugins available in the market which can help you to speed up your WordPress speed. Though I will not recommend using many plugins.

But some plugins like WP Super Cache and WPsweep are a must for a WordPress blog.

WPSupercache can create a cache of your content in user’s browser so that user do not have to request the content from the server again.

WPsweep is a great plugin to clean up unused, orphaned and duplicate content. It also optimized database of WordPress blog and speed up your blog.

# USE GTmetrix to scan and follow recommendation

There are various tools available in the market which can scan your blog and point out the problems and things which are slowing down your blog.

I have corrected many problems associated with my blog, and it helped me to improve overall speed. I recommend trying GTMetrix.

Some of the things these tools can find for you are browser caching, image, CSS, HTML compression, header, cookies, CDN and much more. It also suggests you how to fix it.

# Compress Images

This is very important part of WordPress blog optimization. Please make sure you do everything to optimize the size of the image.

Remember when a user tries to open a post, the image also adds to the size of the post. The lesser the size of image, faster will be loading time.

There is a various tool available online to compress the image. Compresspng.com and Compressjpeg.com are a good example of it.

In the case of infographics, you can create two images one with less resolution and size and another with high resolution and bigger size.

In the post use lesser size image and when the user clicks on the picture, you can load the new image in a new window.

# Remove all unnecessary WordPress plugins

I am not a big fan of plugins. The more WordPress you install slower will be your blog.

Remember WordPress plugins are nothing but are a combination of database tables, PHP, and CSS. Every time you use a plugin, you put an extra burden on your blog to load these components.

Try to reduce the number of plugins installed on your WordPress. Remove any unwanted plugins which are not required. Also, always look out for plugins which are slowing your blog. Either remove or replace them.

# Conclusion:

I hope these tips helped you to understand the importance of speeding up your WordPress blog. No one loves a slow and sluggish blog. You need to regularly work on your blog to make it faster.

These tips will give you a heads up to start improving your website.

Please let me know if this helps you to improve your blog’s speed. I am sure you will get more visitors and credibility for your blog once your blog speed is optimized.
